Chapter Nineteen
Fabien
Letâs get real here. There were more sides to this story than a day in divorce court. And even then, this scenario couldnât have been more tedious. First, there was Ipan and Farah, obviously in love but too dim-witted to see it. If I had to deal with that stupid moralizing old fart again, I swore Iâd cast an impotence spell on him!
Plus, there were the three grown horny men not getting it on with each other. Please! What alternate universe was this? I had to up the ante on what had become a placid magic charm.
I headed for my pantry for spices that could heat up these menâs waning passions. I took out a container of ground fennel seeds and gave it a sniff. The smell was almost aniseed, like various liquors frequently favored by teenagers. The preferred ârite of passageâ in discovering alcohol. Maybe a sprinkle over my models of Adam and Mannix might take them back to a time when sexual discovery was the other ârite of passage.â I realized quickly that this connection was way too obscure. What if it just made them crave licorice? Or better still, made them alcoholics?
Then there was the ground allspice. This was a very masculine odor, reminiscent of sandalwood. But these men were already attracted to the scent of men. How could allspice add to their appeal? I put it aside and continued searching.
I found dried thyme leaves and garlic granules. Flavors one adds to a Sunday roast. Succulent aromas would be brought to mind. Adam could relish the taste against Mannixâs skin, while memories of weekend pleasures would infiltrate his senses. But these luscious flavors might simply stir hunger pains.
Adding ingredients was not the answer. There was already cayenne pepper and ground chili powder for passion, and other sweet spices for attraction. The answer lay in lust.
I closed the pantry door and made my way to the bookcase. There werenât many books, just three traditional leather-bound editions on magic spells and a journal with scribbled notes written in pencil. I reached for the journal, then sat at my desk to skim its pages.
It was a log of love spells, which had once belonged to Rose. It was the one item Iâd asked Ipan for once she left the Afterlife. Rose was very much into the ways of love, even though she was committed to Ipan. Both would take pleasure in sweet spells that created love in a troubled world. I wasnât sure if I could expect to find a stronger charm for attraction within its pages, so I read the index.
The gentle persuasion spell. The nymphâs desire spell. Cupidâs love spell. Panâs playing for pleasure spell. The seven-year itch spell. The snake in Eden spell.
At first glance, I considered Panâs pleasure spell and the snake in Eden. The nymphâs spell was very similar to what I already used on the two unsuspecting men, which only made them long for each other with no end result. I read the snake spell.
